“Blind” Faith
A man, who could not see, was wandering the streets uttering, 'Help me, help me.'
An older blind man heard him and called him over. The younger man followed the sound of his voice and walked to where the older man was resting. The older man handed the younger man his walking stick. 'Take this,' he said, 'it will help.'
'No, sir,' replied the younger man. 'You keep your stick. I want to see, not just learn to cope.'
In this story, the younger man seems unappreciative of the older man's generosity and help. The older man with experience was in a position to help the younger man in dealing with his blindness. However, the younger man had other things in mind. He didn't want to just cope, he wanted to see. He wanted his eyes to be opened. He wanted to claim the first prize - the greatest treasure - sight!
It makes me wonder, am I seeking the top prize or am I just seeking out ways to cope? Who am I choosing for teachers - blind men or those with sight? And am I helping others to gain sight or am I just handing out walking sticks?
