Are You Content? If Not, Then You're likely Tempted To Read This
A friend of mine was asking me how to be content. I replied that I couldn't say. It's something you have to first experience and then work on increasing that experience. But it did get me thinking, how content am I? Do my actions speak contentment? Or does my mouth just pay lip service?
So, I starting thinking of those everyday actions that might suggest I'm less than content.(*)
- excessive snacking (ok, I really mean binging)
- obsessive shopping (seeking a certain item in a certain colour and a
certain style)
- buying frivolous things
- surfing the internet
- channel surfing
- flipping through endless magazines
- rearranging furniture
- changing hair colour and/or style
- trying on everything in wardrobe and still not finding anything to wear

* I just wish the reader to note that I don't do ALL those actions in the above list - at least not daily.Basically, any time we seek to feed the senses we are expressing dis- content. We're not happy with what we have, we want more. We want something new, we want something different, we want something bet- ter! Gosh, we're an unhappy lot!
Then I thought about the times when I truly felt content - where was I? What were the conditions? The place where I've been most content is in Madhuban (Mt. Abu, India). Whether I was washing laundry, or ironing, or eating rice for the 14th day in a row, I was content. I wanted nothing more. I felt that everything was perfect. OK, I didn't feel that way 100% of the time, but I did feel that way the majority of the time. I had no complaints. Except perhaps the cold showers, but even that didn't bother me so much.
Why did I feel so content there? Well, that is what I'm exploring, so I will write more on that later.
Until then, peace and good wishes,
